FRANCIS ECK — US STORY PROPOSAL
For: US video, photography, and visual storytelling desks
Format: A short studio film or photo essay; length and access to be arranged.
Subject: Visual story idea: color, tools, and texture in Francis Eck’s Saint-Martin studio

Hello,

I’m proposing a visual visit to Francis Eck’s studio in Saint-Martin, centered on a process that a flat reproduction only partly conveys: oil paint pulled across a canvas with a palette knife, leaving ridges that change with the light.

This October, his studio announced that a new painting, Élan des voiles, is joining a private collection in Guadeloupe. That gives the story a current starting point; the reporting would take place where the work is made, in Saint-Martin.

A film or photo essay could move from the studio as a whole to tools, hands, paint layers, and close views of the surface. Eck’s blue seascapes and gestural compositions on white grounds offer two distinct visual registers. An interview could explore how a former physical education teacher came to this way of painting.

I can coordinate a visit, discuss a working sequence with the artist, and provide the background material. Filming arrangements are subject to scheduling; access to the private collection is not part of this proposal. The kit includes initial images, captions, and permission status.

Best,
Annabelle Eck
